Wildland Fire Therapy Services

About The Wildland Fire Therapy Service

The new therapy service available to you as a federal wildland firefighter or dispatcher is offered through Magellan Federal and provides access to evidence-based mental health treatment. It offers a network of licensed psychologists, professional counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists with expertise in addressing the mental health needs of emergency responders. Providers are available in every state.

Eligibility

Primary and secondary federal wildland firefighters and federal dispatchers in full-time, seasonal, temporary, collateral duty, and administratively determined (AD) positions are eligible to use the service.

What the Service Offers

You can receive an initial assessment and up to 16 sessions per year at no cost.

Therapy services are available to address acute stress reactions, anxiety, complex grief, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, or substance use concerns related to traumatic events or cumulative emotional strain from working in wildland fire.

The services provided by Magellan Federal include initial assessments and psychotherapy sessions through in-person or virtual appointments. Whether telehealth appointments are provided will depend on your preference, the distance to the provider, and how soon both in-person and virtual appointments are available. In-person appointments will be prioritized as they are known to increase the effectiveness of treatment.

This service is one of the resources to support wildland firefighter mental and physical health that is offered through the Federal Wildland Firefighter Health and Wellbeing Program.

Your health and wellbeing matter.

This service is offered through an external provider, Magellan Federal, and its network of mental health care providers. All providers are independently licensed to provide outpatient mental health services and must follow all state licensure requirements, including the requirement to maintain confidentiality. Treatment records are confidential and protected. They will not be shared with individuals or organizations without your written consent.
